Focus Areas

Activities of the Organisation
Focote Initiative Uganda engages in several activities categorised in six (6) key thematic areas as follows:-

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
i) Skilling women, girls, the youth and the disadvantaged with self employment skills.
ii) Health education and health campaigns.
iii) Training communities and targeted groups.
iv) Career guidance and counseling to the school going age children and youths.
v) Mentorship and motivation seminars, workshops, discussions, plenaries and fora.
Vi) Adult literacy activities.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

The empowerment and autonomy of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic and health status is a highly important end in itself. In addition, it is essential for the achievement of sustainable development. The full participation and partnership of both women and men is required in productive and reproductive life, including shared responsibilities for the care and nurturing of children and maintenance of the household. In all parts of the world, women are facing threats to their lives, health and well- being as a result of being overburdened with work and of their lack of power and influence.

WATER AND SANITATION.
i) Improving access to basic water supply and sanitation services by the community.
ii). Provision, protection and improvement of water sources.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION.
Environmental awareness through tree planting and distribution of tree seedlings.
Environmental conservation
Tree nursery bed management
Community sensitisation on the changes in climatic conditions.
Environmental sanitation and home hygiene.
Advocating for conservation of wetlands, natural vegetation cover and wildlife.
Waste Management.
Pollution Control.
Conservation of Heritage.

PEACE BUILDING AND REHABILITATION.
Assist the recovery of communities, in part through projects that address social and economic infrastructure
Co-ordination with, and referral to, a Network of Specialized interventions, including Institutions, to provide professional and technical Support and Training to persons affected by conflicts in the community.

PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE(PHC) SERVICES.
i) Prevention and control of communicable diseases including HIV/AIDS.
ii) Guidance and Counseling.
iii) Health and sanitation awareness.
iv) Vector and vermin control.
v) Home visiting.
vi) Environmental sanitation and home hygiene.

INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT.
i) Giving advisory services.
ii) Establishing and engaging in productive activities in the community.
iii) Carrying out research to exploit local potential or initiatives in order to promote development and use of local resources.
iv) Collaborating and networking with other civil society organizations, the corporate sector, NGO’s, Donors, the local authorities and the Government of Uganda.
